Hey Rudies, mark your calendars! The upcoming Polish autumn ska festival is scheduled for October 4th, and the lineup looks solid. With The Valkyrians, Sonic Boom Six, and Johnny Reggae Rub Foundation, along with some standout local performers, including Podwórkowi Chuligani and Ziggie Piggie, this event will be a highlight of the season!
The last two years went by with hardly any concerts and festivals. There have been very few ska related music events in Poland, and travelling abroad has been difficult. But there is light at the end of the tunnel – the fourth edition of Gdańsk Ska Jamboree.
It’s getting hotter and hotter and the pandemic restrictions on the organization of cultural events in Poland loosen up. Small concerts and open-air parties are slowly coming back to Warsaw. But in other parts of the world, online events are still the best pastime. This weekend, it’s worth staying at home and virtually going to a ska festival in Peru.
We have a 4-day weekend ahead of us in Poland and although we’re coming out of lockdown, sometimes it’s important to ask oneself if I really need to leave my flat. The promoters of virtual festivals made sure that it was worth spending the next few days in front of the screen.
Unfortunately, the September edition of Freedom Sounds will also not take place as planned. Restrictions on the organization of large events in Germany have been extended. All we can to do is wait for 2021.
Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and restrictions on movement and organization of mass events, most music festivals have been postponed to next year. This is also the case with Czech Mighty Sounds festival, which according to the new plan is to take place at the turn of June and July 2021.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on public events, concert and festival promoters are forced to cancel or postpone them. The Freedom Sounds Festival, scheduled for the end of April in Cologne, found itself in the latter situation. The promoters set a new date – 4/5 September and announced the first bands – The Bluebeaters and Kalles Kaviar. We will inform you about the new line-up as soon as it is confirmed.
Among the festivals that combine different alternative genres in one place, Mighty Sounds is my favorite. Every year you’ll find punk, hardcore, rock’n’roll bands and of course those that we like the most in their program . Check out why you should go to the Czech Republic this weekend.
One of the best summer ska festivals in Europe, it’s a well known fact. There’s always a great company there, picnic atmosphere till around 3pm and later on lots of great gigs until late night. Two or, if you’re really interested, even three days of great party in ska, rocksteady and reggae rythms. What more could you possibly want? I’ve been there many times and I’ve seen so many Jamaican legends at the Wasserburg castle, I think there’s no other place like that for me. What This Is Ska promoters prepared for this year? Here are my recommendations.
I’ve been at Riverside Stomp Festival only once and it was 12 years ago. That’s where I’ve seen Derrick Morgan for the first time and if only because of that I have very fond memories of this event. Mainz is not very close to Warsaw, so during all those years I haven’t been able to repeat my visit, but every year I observe line-ups offered by the promoters with true pleasure. This time it’s also interesting.
To say that Freedom Sounds is a great festival is not enough. Before we tell you exactly what happened during the memorable last weekend of April in Cologne, Magdalena prepared her Top 5.
It’s only few days left till 7th edition of Freedom Sounds Festival. We’ve written many times that this is probably our favourite recurring event in ska, rocksteady and reggae rythms. Spring indoors festival in Cologne, Germany has definitely earned this name. We’ve been there three times already and each time it was simply perfect. The bar is set very high but this year’s lineup allows to expect new record results.
It was quite some time ago when Freedom Sounds advanced in my personal festivals ranking to the very top, pretty much number one actually. I’ve had a pleasure to visit Cologne in spring for three consecutive years and every single time I was amazed by perfect organisation and magnificent lineup. Now under “Freedom Sounds” banner Pete and his crew are making a second edition of christmas ball in ska, rocksteady and reggae rhytms, which is definitely one the most interesting propositions to spend good time during pre-Christmas period.
Last weekend was gonna be great and I knew that way before it started. First Gdańsk Ska Jamboree was already fantastic and for its second edition promoters planned so much great bands from abroad, that it was even remotely imposssible to imagine, that something could go wrong.
There’s not a lot of events in Poland, which you could proudly call a ska-festival. During the years there were a few initiatives of that kind, but usually they weren’t able to stay for its second, and surely not the third edition. In this context what looks extremely optimistic is Gdańsk Ska Jamboree. Its second edition is gonna take place this weekend.
The Offenders are coming to Poland next week for 5 gigs. Band was created in Italy in the end of 2005. When they released their first album “Hooligan Reggae”, they had no idea, that in future it’ll be considered european ska scene classic.
At the end of September we were at Róbrege Festival in Warsaw and we managed to catch some very special moments. ZiggiePiggie and recently deceased Robert Brylewski in never published, farewell song.
During the last few years German festival This Is Ska has earned itself the name of one of the most anticipated summer music events. Promoters who consistently invite Jamaican stars from so called top shelf, great ogranization and perfect atmosphere unreachable for most of similar parties – these are the reasons for which ska fest in Rosslau takes up the key place in holidays’ calendar.
